SO PEOPLE MAY HAVE NOTICED THAT JULIAN HAS A BIT OF A TRUST ISSUE WHEN IT COMES TO ADULTS, ROBOTS AND ... LOOK THERE'S A LOT. I have more scans than this but I honestly got bored and Legacy has really awful art (worse than X-Force, which as you will see is saying something) and the art for NXM can be terribly variable so I couldn't be bothered.

First up, a bunch of kids lose their powers, so they get put on a bus and then some anti-mutant extremeists blow it up because that is how they roll. The current cast of younger mutants get to watch in helpless horror as their efforts to rescue their friends are doomed to failure as they all die.  Anyway, those Sentinels that stand guard, are they helping?

Well, at least they were horrified! That's something, right?

...yeah, no, that didn't last long. Sentinel pilots give no fucks about dead teenagers if they have an x-gene.

So normal humans don't care about teenaged mutants. What about the teachers? Surely teaching staff would be invested in their welfare and wouldn't disengage from the students for fear of them dying...

This naturally wouldn't cause any issues, like causing the younger mutants to become terribly codependent on one another with abandonment issues a mile wide.  And then that wouldn't cause any issues when one of the younger mutants is separated from the others after he gets impaled and ends up in a coma, right?

Yep. Nothing wrong here.  I'm skipping over the stuff with the Dark X-Men and how Julian gets the snot kicked out of him in prison and strapped into a torture device on a daily basis because I'm lazy and his hair is worse than normal in it.  It is really bad, okay.

Anyway, surely this is just one staff member. The other school principal, the upright Scott Summers, would be interested in the welfare of his students, right?

Yep, he sure let them get injected with a virus that was going to kill them horrifically without caring. (Also, poor Josh ;;) BUT LOOK, WOLVERINE CARES. SEE. MAYBE HE'LL BE THE ONE TO SHOW AN INTEREST.

...well, at least he tried.

And that is why Julian doesn't trust anyone, least of all your character.  I skipped over the stuff in Legacy because the art is even worse than what is up here and his hair is hideous.

The sad thing about those X-Force scans is that that is actually some of the better art ):

Also BOY ISN'T IT SWELL THAT THE MUTANTKIDS HAVE THESE TWO GREAT GUYS. WHO VALUE THEIR SAFETY AND FUTURE SO MUCH. THAT THEY BROKE UP THE X-MEN BECAUSE THEY HAD CONFLICTING OPINIONS ON HOW TO DO THAT.

BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT SCHISM WAS ABOUT. IT WAS ABOUT THE CHILDREN :'(

Oh goodness, I'm really glad I didn't read any more of it, because the issues I read were kind of what is this i don't even know what's happening.

Anyway, what are you talking about, it wasn't about the children. It was about Idie. Just Idie. No-one else counts.

Well of course it was about Idie. There are no other children, didn't you know? At least none that are important :')

Or Quentin Quire I guess.

But Quentin is the most tragic and broken of all of us and he's an obnoxious little shit who hasn't got a shred of heroism in him because ... he was adopted? And adopted kids don't have real families or something, I don't know.

Yes, exactly. Never mind that Peter Parker, Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, and almost ALL of the Robins lost their parents and were raised by other relatives or were adopted by other people. OBVIOUSLY IF YOU DO NOT COME FROM A TWO PARENT (NEITHER OF WHICH ARE SUPER VILLAINS) HOME WHICH IS IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM BROKEN, YOU ARE DOOMED TO BE A TERRIBLE, ANTI-HERO INCAPABLE OF DOING 'THE RIGHT THING'.

... you know, now I'm kind of wondering if in a happier universe where no bad things happened, if Dani might have adopted Josh. This thought makes me feel feelings and most of them are sad for the 'what could have beens' ):

It is one of the consistent traits of the X-Books; the older mutants claim they care about the kids but their actions make it really clear that they don't. It gets even more hideous when you find out that for a while, they thought that Julian's set of mutants were the last mutants to exist. When they found someone else, they treat her like she's a messiah and give her everything she could want or need while treating Julian's classmates like ... this.

IT'S OKAY I can fish out the scans where Magneto tells him to get out of the hospital and stop being mean to the mutant messiah the day Julian wakes up from his coma with no hands. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY TERRIBLE ADULTING FROM EVERYONE.

The best part is that these scans are actually in chronological order and I skipped out the times non-teaching staff were pointlessly cruel to him, like Gambit threatening to dismember him. GOOD TIMES.

Marvel really loves Julian Keller.

I like how the X-Men movies are actually made of flowers and butterflies compared to the comics.

And the cartoons too! But the comics are pretty much where ALL THE BAD THINGS HAPPEN, especially to the kids :(

The art on X-Force is horrible; I read the stuff for Necrosha and was just I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING.

I had to wiki it later.
