FIRST IMPRESSION FOR ME. Hope, Julian, and Ronan on the Doctor!!

Ronan's first impression of the Doctor was when he was about four or five, watching it with his family, and hiding behind the couch during all the scary parts with the aliens. Canon is glorious to me, okay.

Though in camp, he is ... basically kind of rolling with things. Ronan's been in camp long enough to know that people come and go, sometimes they remember him and sometimes they don't, but what really matters is today and tomorrow and what you make of them. So while this Doctor doesn't remember the things that he talked about with the old Doctor, that's okay! He remembers them and remembers the impact those words had on him, and this Doctor can have a new fresh impact on him in different ways. He is totally cool with that, especially given that the Doctor is the Doctor, no matter what he does and doesn't remember, or where he is from. He had a ball talking to him about the universe, and he feels kind of ... ashamed a bit that he had to see Ronan after he face planted because he wants to actually be awesome and competent, okay.

I'm about 90% sure that the reason why Ronan is a wizard is because of the Doctor, okay, after the last book. HE IS KIND OF OMG. YES. LET US DO THESE THINGS.

Julian is kind of who are you and why are you so insistant and nosy into my life. He has this weird thing where he wants adults and family in his life while also not wanting to trust adults because they are inherently untrustworthy and are going to run off and abandon him. So the Doctor being all manic and British at him is kind of "...what are you. I know you're going to leave. so just get on with it now." He hasn't realised yet that he is a Project.

As for Hope, Hope is kind of bowled over. Hope's canon point is, essentially, the loss of everything ever. He didn't expect to be alive, nor to have castmates, nor to have someone turn up and say "I know how to fix your problem". He's intuitive enough to believe that the Doctor may actually hold some answers for him, though he's not sure what they are as of yet, and he was genuinely bowled over by how the Doctor actually wanted to help. That's actually pretty rare in camp! It's something that stuck with him, that he could help, would help and was keen to help.

He's now aware that he has a time machine and Hope is just itching to look at it and study it and see if he can retroengineer it so that he too can travel around in time and FIX ALL THE THINGS. Unfortunately for everyone, Hope is actually a legit time-space genius so he might actually get enough clues from Sexy to actually ... do something horrible. god help us all.

But basically the Doctor is the answer to something that has been devastating him for some time. He's able to move forward! Find a solution to their problem! And he is intensely grateful to the Doctor for being that answer to him.

Asbel is a seriously pureblood Gryffindor that everyone is surprised at because he is so loud and brash that he doesn't really ... act like he's from serious money and prestige. He goes around and makes friends with everyone because that is how he rolls. His best class is duelling and he is absolutely abysmal at anything that involves reading. He likes all the practical classes and is going to be an Auror one day!!11

Elliot is also a pureblood Gryffindor and he is from a family of Slytherins. It's like he should be disliked but he really isn't because his family adore him to bits, though he isn't at all liked by his house because his family are all suspected Death Eaters. He too is going to be an Auror one day and he hangs out with that weird Ravenclaw kid with messy hair because they both squabble over the books they want to read. His best class is Defence Against the Dark Arts, though it's rumoured he's only good at it because of his family's VERY shady connections. Elliot finds it all very frustrating and if pressed would blow up and go on about how he's going to prove these connections wrong!!

Hope was a Ravenclaw muggleborn who was thrust into their society and spent the first year going wtf is this oh my god i can't do this. He got adopted by two older girls who took him under their wings and showed him around, and he is forever grateful to them. As such, he doesn't really care about the houses so much because when the people best for him were a Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, who cares about houses? Hope doesn't! He's now involved in time turner research and is making his name in lights for the discoveries he's found.

Julian was a student that the hat spent ages deliberating over, until it decided that Julian's ambition is for a noble goal. Julian's a muggleborn who ran up against the muggleborn prejudice and immediately decided to hell with that he's awesome and therefore so are all other muggleborns even if they annoy him a lot. With an attitude like that he ended up in Gryffindor where he was on the Quidditch team and his parents disowned him upon getting his letter. He ends up becoming a ward of Hogwarts. It's about as not fun as it sounds but he grits his teeth and bears it because one day things will be better.

Ronan doesn't even know why he's here. Okay seriously, Ronan is the world's most terrifying Ravenclaw in that while he's impulsive and reckless, he always thinks about it first and makes sure he contemplates his options. And then pulls out a WMD and makes a spectacular light show. He's a halfblood and is kind of lol whatever i just want to read everything and then blow it all up. He spends a lot of time out by the lake. No-one is game to ask why.

stupid headcanon you have!

one
It's a year after the fall. They call their new calendar AF, though what this means is up to the speaker. The government, duly elected three months before in the first truly open elections in over a thousand years, pushes that though humanity has fallen from its seat in the sky, it can reach up and touch the stars now, and sometimes the people believe it.

Hope Estheim is fifteen now, gawky and awkward and not quite certain where his hands and feet are at the moment. He's taller now, and he imagines that he'd be Vanille's height now. He still dreams of her stepping out of the pillar, somehow held upright with a miracle, Fang ever-present at her side.

Oerba hasn't changed in a year. It's still covered in the crystal dust of an entire people ground to dust under the heel of fal'Cie oppression. He laughs at himself, ruefully, at the thought that something might have changed in the year. The pillar still reaches into the sky and he heads over there on his air bike (borrowed legitimately this time, he had told Snow, who honestly didn't know why that made him smile to himself).

"Hello, Fang, Vanille," he opens, resting his gloved hand on the pillar's base. "It's Hope, and we're doing fine."

two
He's nineteen now, five years after the fall. It's no longer necessary for him to hide away every anniversary, because people forget over time. The events leading to Cocoon's fall were so vast, so widespread, that people grew to believe that the fal'Cie really did not have their best interests at heart. When reminded, people were able to connect the small, silver haired boy with the quietly charismatic young man leading the research and development team, but no-one truly believed that Hope Estheim would jeopardise the world.

He still goes to Oerba. The town is closed off to the public, and where l'Cie would once tread, paradoxes rise up in their footsteps. He wonders what happened there, why Oerba is such a nexus point for these paradoxes. Was it to do with their reawakening at this spot, five years earlier? He's not sure, though he suggests it to the pillar anyway.

"Last week Serah reappeared," he told the pillar, to the girls sleeping inside. He's nineteen now, the same age as Vanille and half a foot taller, though he still imagines Fang towering over him. "She had someone with her, a Noel … the new trainee, Alyssa Zaidelle, said that he would have been around her age." Our age, in truth, though Hope doesn't feel nineteen. He's not sure how old he feels. "I'll see you soon," he promises, as he promises every time he visits. One day it will be true, he's sure.

three
"I'm not going to see you for a while. I'll see you in just under four hundred years."

Hope doesn't say much else. He knows that he doesn't have a lot of time. His father's funeral was last Monday, and his security detail would quickly become worried if they knew that he was visiting a town closed off for temporal paradoxes. There were fears that Hope might do something terribly reckless out of grief. Hope doesn't correct them, because he is doing something terribly reckless. To manipulate gravity and sleep through almost half a millennia is the definition of reckless.

"Stay safe until then."

four
The future is a strange, marvellous place, and one where Hope feels entirely disconnected from. He smiles politely at people, remembers facts about their personal lives and wishes them happy birthday, happy anniversary, congratulations on all the right days.

Palumpolum has changed since he slept; it's gradually been turning into a ghost town. The only people who live there now are researchers and historians, trying to prise open the secrets of a civilisation that Hope was born into. He went to visit once with Alyssa, and ended up having to coax her back to Academia after she panicked. Everything had changed. He got lost now in it.

"Is this how it was for you, waking up after five hundred years?" he asked the pillar. He doesn't ask does it get easier?. Instead, he straightens his shoulders and adds "when you wake up, I'll be here for you." He's no longer the scared child needing their reassurance. He's grown into himself, into his role and made it his own. He is hope: hope for a better future, for a future ruled by humanity, and for a future where their world isn't suspended on the shoulders of two impossibly brave young women.

He's twenty-seven now, and older than all of them except for Sazh. In the eyes of the people of Academia he is four hundred and fourteen. Neither match how he views his own age.

five
"Tomorrow, Cocoon will fall. Tomorrow, we'll pull you out before that happens. We'll finally be able to make things how they should have gone."
